The month of April was crazy, mostly consumed with the American Heart Association's annual Gala, a fundraising event that takes place every year at the Science Museum of Virginia. My sister-in-law, Mandy, did an amazing job with it this year, and it was absolutely beautiful! I have to say that for me, it was exhausting...but Mandy does so much to help out with my Luncheon that I was happy to do what I could to help with her event. That included three full days of set-up at the Science Museum (on my feet!) and then the night-of-event lasting until the wee hours of the morning. I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but I did - and really the only lasting effect was that my toes were actually numb for a few days afterwards. Here are a few pictures of the Gala:
Candace & Kendall (the Gala Director & Sr. Director) in the Silent Auction area, the RotundaThe first weekend of May, I was lucky enough to go to my good friend Tristina's baby shower in Maryland! The drive was long but uneventful, and the shower was so much fun. Tristina is due on July 15th, just about 2 weeks behind me, and she is having a boy! It really has been a blast being pregnant "together" with Tristina, comparing notes & bellies. Here are 2 pics from her shower (I was almost 32 weeks):
Other than that, we've been enjoying what little nice weather we've been having by taking the dogs to the dog park on the weekends, and even ventured out to Belle Isle a few weekends ago. It was a lot of fun, though we discovered that George does not like the water! We met Adam's niece & nephew there, and they loved playing in the water with Chessie who (of course) was having a blast - she is such a water dog. Poor George had to sit on the bank with me and watch from afar. I was scared to even put my feet in the water - with the slippery rocks & rapids, my huge off-balance body definitely increased my chances of taking a tumble. It was so great to be outdoors, though, with all the rain we've been having - and watching Adam with the dogs & kids made me so excited for when Emery is old enough to do things like that with us!
As for Adam, he has officially finished his first graduate class at UVA, and we found out yesterday that he got a B! I am so proud of him, we were nervous about this class because it is infamous for being one of the hardest graduate-level classes he could have taken. Of course, he chose that class to be his first...but he made it through and is biting at the bit to take another one. However, I think that he's holding off on a summer class because he MIGHT be a bit distracted with the birth of his daughter ;-) He is also back at Kings Dominion again this season (yes, whoever thought he was officially done was a sucker...he can't stay away from that place!).
Finally, on to baby news. I am now in my 34th week, and doing just fine. Except for normal aches & pains, I have to say that the third trimester (so far) seems to be the easiest for me. I am battling quite a bit of rib pain & heartburn/reflux, but unfortunately there isn't much that can be done about that...except delivering! My short torso just adds to my discomfort, and I fear that it will only get worse before it gets better. My belly is measuring right on target, and Emery is probably about 4.5 lbs now. I found out today that I am going in for a growth ultrasound in a few weeks. After that, we'll have a better sense of how big she is and if she is indeed head-down (all signs tell us that she is!). I'm excited to see her one last time before she's born!
We have pretty much finished the "big stuff" for the nursery. The walls are painted and furniture put together - we just have to take care of the details (put the closet doors up, refasten the window blinds & sheers, put some things on the walls, buy a few accent pieces). It's amazing to think that in just a few short weeks (6? 7?) she will be here! Below are a few pictures of the nursery (forgive the clutter, we're not done!). I'll try harder to keep this site updated more often - and lots of fun things are coming up (showers, for example!). Hope all of you are doing well!
